PBR Panels should not be installed on a roof that is less than a 1/2:12 pitch. When this panel is installed on pitches less than 1/2:12, heavy rainfall may lead to water accumulation and possible leaks.

PBR Panel
PBR panels offer the same look and coverage as R Panel, but includes an extra "leg" on one side of the sheet. The PB stands for purlin bearing, and is designed to go against the purlin or substrate with the lapping rib going over the top. This aids in installation in holding the sheet stable as screws are applied. Note: the side with the extra rib must go under the lapping side.

Is a metal roof easy to install?
Is a metal roof easy to install?
In order for your metal roof to look great and protect your home from the elements, care should be taken when choosing a roofer or tackling the job yourself. The difficulty of installation depends on many factors including the size, roof slope, your skill level, and complexity (how many hips, valleys, transitions and other areas that will require flashing and trim).

Can I install metal roofing over my existing shingles?
Can I install metal roofing over my existing shingles?
While some structural panel types (PBR, RPN, PBU, UPN, SSP, COR, CPB) can be installed over flat shingles, we recommend that your existing roof and underlayment be removed to inspect the decking and start from a fresh surface. Other architectural panels (CF, AP, MSL, and MLK) require a flat surface for support and the neatest appearance. Please contact a Mueller representative for additional details.

Is thicker material always better?
Is thicker material always better?
Depending on your intended use, a thicker panel is not always better. A 24-gauge material is thick but must be softer than 26-gauge to be rolled into sheets and trim. Additionally, thicker material will cost more and may not be the best value for what you need. While both can be used on roofs, the majority of what we sell is 26-gauge which offers a great combination of thickness and hardness factors. We also offer our SSP panels in 29-gauge for less demanding applications and budget-driven projects.

Weather Resistance - Mueller roofs offer superior protection from wind, hail and fire.
Longevity - Mueller offers limited paint warranties up to 30 years. Your roof will look fresh and vibrant for decades.
Energy Efficiency - Because of their high-tech coatings, Mueller roofs may help lower your air conditioning and heating bills.
Insurance Savings - Insurance companies may offer discounts up to 35% for homes with Mueller metal roofs. Check with your insurance agent.
Low Maintenance - Install your metal roof and then forget about it.
Environmentally Friendly - The recycled content of steel in metal roofing is much higher than the recycled content in asphalt shingles. Plus, because a metal roof weighs less than shingles, it can often be installed directly over your existing roof, saving the environmental as well as financial costs associated with removal and disposal.

Is a metal roof more energy efficient than an asphalt shingle roof?
Is a metal roof more energy efficient than an asphalt shingle roof?
Yes: Metal roofing offers three primary ways in which it keeps homes cooler and reduces air conditioning costs often by 20% or more. First, light colored metal roofs and some metal roofs with special pigments in dark colors reflect radiant heat. Second, metal roofs lose any gained heat very quickly to the sky when the sun sets or goes behind a cloud or even when a slight breeze blows. Other roofing materials capture and retain the sun’s heat. Third, metal roof panels have an integral airspace between the metal and the roof deck in the way of ribs. This airspace acts as a thermal break, stopping conductive heat transfer. Common terms used in relation to metal roofing are:
Emissivity - Metal roofs can be painted to achieve noteworthy emissivity ratings as high as 90%. Emissivity is a term used to describe the heat that is radiated - or emitted - from a surface. For example the asphalt on your street has low emissivity - and high heat transference - which is why it is virtually impossible to walk on it barefoot on a hot summer day. The sun's heat is absorbed into the asphalt and then transferred to the surrounding environment. On the other hand, properly treated metal roofing has low emissivity and high reflectivity, which keeps buildings significantly cooler in warmer weather, noticeably reducing overall cooling loads.
Reflectivity - In addition to low emissivity, cool metal roofs are also highly reflective. This means that radiant heat from the sun is reflected directly back into the atmosphere. When you consider that 40% or more of the nation's energy is spent on heating and cooling costs, this becomes a significant source of energy savings.

What is Class 4?
What is Class 4?
A Class 4 rating is the highest tested rating for impact resistance under the UL 2218 standard for metal roofing panels. This certification indicates the roof material has passed testing that simulates withstanding 2” diameter hail with no visible defect. Our 26 gauge panels (and thicker) pass this testing.
-
Do the panels come pre-cut?
Do the panels come pre-cut?
All panels are made at one of our manufacturing locations and pre-cut to the appropriate lengths for your roof. The cuts will be square across the panels – angle cuts for valleys or hips must be done in the field.
-
Will a metal roof attract lightning?
Will a metal roof attract lightning?
A metal roof does not increase the likelihood of a lightning strike because once installed, it becomes part of your home and its grounded system.
